Birkenhead Point Tourism Strategy

Overview

Birkenhead Point Shopping Centre has developed an innovative tourism strategy that promotes the centre to both domestic and international tourists. This strategy capitalises on its enviable assets, including its harbourside location and its unique open-air shopping environment, plus its close proximity to the Sydney CBD – the centre can be directly accessed by bus from the Sydney CBD. Shoppers can also travel to Birkenhead Point by water taxi from various wharves on Sydney Harbour and the Parramatta River.

Advertising and Media

To ensure Birkenhead Point’s advertising initiatives achieve maximum reach and frequency amongst domestic and international tourists, advertisements are placed in key tourism magazines, maps and brochures. These are strategically situated in luxury hotel rooms throughout Australian capital cities and in Qantas First Class, Business Class and Chairmans' lounges in Australia, New Zealand, Thailand, Singapore, Hong Kong and Honolulu.

Hello Sydney! Program

Hello Sydney! is an incentive program that offers discounts on shopping, dining and attractions to domestic and international visitors to Sydney. This tourism initiative also includes the Shopper Hopper, a shuttle boat service that ferries visitors between Circular Quay, Darling Harbour and Birkenhead Point. The Hello Sydney! initiative is promoted via advertising in Sydney Where Magazine, direct marketing at hotel concierge desks and key tourist locations in the Sydney CBD, in-centre at Birkenhead Point and Harbourside Shopping Centre, Darling Harbour and via Trip Advisor and the dedicated program website, hello.sydney.

Industry Targeting

Birkenhead Point will maintain its targeted communications to relevant tourism industry associations including Destination NSW, Visit Sydney and Tourism Australia. It will also continue to inform, educate and update accommodation managers, concierge desks, tour operators and tourism media about Birkenhead Point Outlet Centre and its status as a premium tourist destination.

A Tourist Coach Management Plan to engage with coach operators has also been developed to promote the centre’s premium retail offering, the Hello Sydney! program and the convenient passenger set-down, pick-up and coach parking.
